3 Class L-1011??
I will be flying next week on the L1011-500, I looked on the aircraft configuration on the Delta site and it says that it only has 2 rows of First Class seats (or 12 seats) and then it shows BusinessElite as the cabin after First with 23 BizElite seats, and then ofcourse Coach. HOW is this?? LOL I haven't gotten my ticket yet, so I don't know what seat I have... But 2 FC rows on an L1011? Or do they sell the "BusinessElite" section as First Class? Because if I do get a "Business Class" seat, that will be downright wrong on Delta's part, after all, I KNOW I probably paid the same fare as the people in the 12 "real" First Class seats, I would not have a problem with this if the Business Class seats were the same as the 12 First Class seats, but if I'm going to pay the standard First fare and get seated in Business Class.... LOL Or maybe the aircraft configuration drawing on the web page is wrong and I am just going bizerk over nothing? Does anyone know for sure what the deal is on the L1011-500's First Class?

I don't think DL actually has any 3-class L10-500's left. My understanding is that they're down to just L10-100s and they are 2-class and on their way to being replaced by 764s.
Daniel, what route are you flying? To Hawaii, ATL-LAX, ATL-MCO? Are you positive you're on a 500?

Yes, I am certain it is L1011-500, that is what it says the particular flight will be operated by on the Delta web site, and when I called and asked they said it was indeed an L1011-500. Its ATL--MIA (the 535 PM). I normally frequent this route, which is ALWAYS normally operated with 763's (regular First class seating) so I was surprised to see a change of aircraft, however, I spoke with my cousin who also flys ATL--MIA, MIA--ATL a lot, and he said that during the summer Delta flys the L1011-500's between ATL and MIA, and that when he flew on it, the Business Class section of it was just basically sold as Coach (with standard coach service) and was offered to the elite frequent flyer Medallion customers. LOL not much of a three class service that Delta could offer on just a 2 hour flight....(Kind of like what AA and United do when they offer 2-class service on a 3-class aircraft, I have heard of this done before, but didn't know Delta did it.. Didn't even know Delta still HAD aircraft with three class cabins) Tommorrow I am racing down to the ticket office to snag my ticket as quick as possible to ensure that I get FC for that particular flight.. Especially considering the fact that there are only 12 seats. That will be like a 727 then LOL ~Daniel

The website is incorrect. I noticed the L1011-500 was showing being fitted with a 3 cabin config. about 3 months ago. I forwarded our webmaster the flaw, and as you can tell, it still has not been fixed. The L1011-500 long ago was fitted w/ 3 cabins when it flew international routes. There are 24 seats in F-class, 4 rows of 6 seats in each row. Where the old business class was, is now coach, but I haven't heard that its any different than say a row in the back.

well i did that flight in june the flight# was 1420 departed at 5:40pm. we were schedule on a L1011 with 32 first, the flight was downgraded to a L1011 500 24 first only so you see only two class of service.

To reiterate and expound upon what Russ said, all of the old international L-1011-500 models were removed from international service about two years ago. At that time, they were converted to two class planes with four rows of six in first class, then coach behind that. There is no business class seat or service on this aircraft. The seats in first class are standard domestic first class seats.
It just shows how sluggish Delta is with the website updates. I really don't know what all those people do to justify their time. I keep waiting for the very basic ability to book award travel on line.

LOL sluggish? I would say misinfomed. About last year, the diagram for the L1011-500's seating read First Class, Business Class, and Coach. They did indeed update it. But they changed what once read "Business Class" to "BusinessElite". LOL so now it shows that the L1011-500 offers First Class, BusinessElite, and Coach. Hmm. Interesting.

Just flew on the L-1011, had not been on one for several years (since they took them of European routes). The entire crew, including pilots were looking forward to them being replaced with 767-400ER. This is due to be done before the end of the year, hopefully in late September.

I have reported the anomoly of the L1011-500 seating chart to DL many times. Obviously it isn't worth changing since they will be gone really soon. Too bad. I like the ole tristar

That's not what I've heard. A Delta pilot on an ATL-LAX L-10 told me in June that the L-10 fleet was being phased out through August of 2001. So far, the Web site still has them flying Honolulu runs through January or Feb. of 2001 at least.
Gove me an L-10 over a 764 every day.

DLs 21 764s are to be delivered by the end of 2001, I believe. They've taken delivery of the first, and the next few can't be far behind, as the Boeing Engineers strike delayed testing of the a/c. They are supposed to enter service on 10/1 from ATL to select FL destinations, and the website reflected that when looking at future flts to MCO and TPA. But just yesterday I tried to find flts on those routes using 764s, and couldn't find a single one. Don't know what's up with that.
As for HI service, DL has said they plan to replace all L10s serving the islands by yearend. L10s will say bye bye to DL Delta in just one year. There are about 20 still flying in DL colors.
Planning a jaunt to Europe late next month. If it happens, looks like L10s between LAX-ATL in both directions, and M11s to/from AMS. Perhaps my last opportunity, and first in quite a while, to fly on the venerable widebodies. I do not fly many DL routes where L10s are regularly scheduled.
