Play Time Ideas

I have several easy recipes for kids like a easy homemade play dough recipe, clay, bubble, paper mache and much more. Corn dog muffin and homemade slime too.

I have some great ideas to make it fun for all when playingandduring treat time.

For starters, the gummy bears are so good that the kids (andbigkids) will fight (well almost)over them. A great way to save money too.

Easy Recipes for Kids

PAPER MACHE:

To make it, combine 1/2 cup all-purpose flour and 2 cups cold water in a bowl. Add this mixture to a saucepan of 2 cups boiling water and bring it to a boil again.

Remove from the heat and stir in 3 tablespoons of sugar. Let it cool; it will thicken as it cools. Once it does, it’s ready to use.

“GUMMY BEARS”
One (3 oz) box of cherry Jell-O (or grape, green apple – use your favorite)
unflavored gelatin, 7 envelopes
1/2 cup water

Mix the above ingredients in a bowl until mixture is stiff like play dough. Microwave for 30 seconds until melted. Pour into Gummy molds and freeze for 5 minutes. (If you can wait that long) Enjoy.

HOMEMADE PLAYDOUGH RECIPE

1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
2 tsp cream of tartar
1 TBS vegetable oil
1 cup water
few drops of food coloring
few drops of peppermint oil, optional

In a heavy pan, mix dry ingredients. Add oil, water and food coloring. Cook for 3 minutes or until mixture pulls away from the side of the pan.

Stir in a few drops of peppermint oil (or any kind of oil for a pleasant smell). Working quickly, place the mixture onto a sheet of waxed paper and knead slightly. Will keep for several weeks in an air tight container.

This is NOT edible.

KOOL-AID PLAY DOUGH

2-3/4 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
1 TBS alum, powdered
2 pkg Kool-Aid; sugar free gives it MORE color)
3 TBS vegetable oil
2 cups boiling water

Mix together the flour, salt, alum and Kool-Aid. Stir in the boiling water and oil. Mix together and knead well. This is NOT edible.

Here’s some more easy recipes for kids. This is a super recipe for homemade clay.

HOMEMADE CLAY

1 cup cornstarch
2 cups salt
1-1/3 cups cold water

Put salt and 2/3 cup of water into a pan and bring to a boil. Meanwhile; mix the cornstarch together with the remaining water and whisk. Blend the two mixtures together and knead into clay. Keep the unused clay in a tightly covered container in the refrigerator. Air dry the mixture for permanent sculptures.

Here’s a recipe forCLOWN FACE MAKEUP:

2 tsp solid vegetable shortening
1 tsp flour
5 tsp cornstarch
3 to 4 drops of glycerin
food coloring

Mix the shortening, cornstarch and flour into a smooth paste. Add the glycerin. Divide into sections and add the food coloring.

How to make slime…another one of my easy recipes for kids:

HOMEMADE SLIME RECIPE

What you’ll need:

1/2 cup Elmer’s white glue
borax powder
water
teaspoon
bowl
jar
measuring cup
food coloring

Pour the glue into the jar. Fill the empty glue bottle with water and stir it into the glue. Or you may just add 1/2 cup of water.

If desired, add the food coloring. In a separate bowl, mix 1 cup of water with 1 tsp of borax. Slowly stir the glue mixture into the bowl of borax solution.

The slime will start forming in your hand. Knead it until it feels dry. There will be water left in the bowl. The more you play with the slime, the firmer and less sticky it becomes. Store it in a sealed bag in the refrigerator.

TIPS: Elmer’s glue works the best; most school glues do not have the right consistency. To remove: soak dried slime with water.

No substitutions for this easy recipe for kids. It turns out perfect.

HOMEMADE SILLY PUTTY RECIPE

1/2 cup Elmer’s glue
1/2 cup liquid starch
3 drops food coloring

Place white glue in a medium shallow dish. Slowly add liquid starch to glue, kneading with your fingers. The more you handle the silly putty, the better it will turn out!

If desired, add drops of food coloring, any color you want and continue to knead with hands (I wear rubber gloves so my hands do not get stained, until color is fully incorporated). Makes about 1 cup.

“KIDS QUOTES”

What, you ask, is ‘Butt dust’? Read on and you’ll discover the joy in it. These have to be original and genuine. No adult is this creative…

JACK (age 3) was watching his Mom breast-feeding his new baby sister… After a while he asked: ‘Mom why have you got two? Is one for hot and one for cold milk? ‘

MELANIE (age 5) asked her Granny how old she was.. Granny replied she was so old she didn’t remember any more. Melanie said, ‘If you don’t remember you must look in the back of your panties. Mine say five to six.’

STEVEN (age 3) hugged and kissed his Mom good night. ‘I love you so much that when you die I’m going to bury you outside my bedroom window.’

BRITTANY (age 4) had an ear ache and wanted a pain killer. She tried in vain to take the lid off the bottle. Seeing her frustration, her Mom explained it was a child-proof cap and she’d have to open it for her. Eyes wide with wonder, the little girl asked: ‘How does it know it’s me?’

SUSAN (age 4) was drinking juice when she got the hiccups. ‘Please don’t give me this juice again,’ she said, ‘It makes my teeth cough..’

DJ (age 4) stepped onto the bathroom scale and asked: ‘How much do I cost?’

CLINTON (age 5) was in his bedroom looking worried when his Mom asked what was troubling him, he replied, ‘I don’t know what’ll happen with this bed when I get married. How will my wife fit in it?’

MARC (age 4) was engrossed in a young couple that were hugging and kissing in a restaurant. Without taking his eyes off them, he asked his dad: ‘Why is he whispering in her mouth?’

TAMMY(age 4) was with her mother when they met an elderly, rather wrinkled woman her Mom knew. Tammy looked at her for a while and then asked, ‘Why doesn’t your skin fit your face?’

JAMES (age 4) was listening to a Bible story. His dad read: ‘The man named Lot was warned to take his wife and flee out of the city but his wife looked back and was turned to salt.’ Concerned, James asked: ‘What happened to the flea? ‘

Kids say the darndest things…..

The Sermon I think this Mom will never forget…

This particular Sunday sermon….’Dear Lord,’ the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. ‘Without you, we are but dust…’ He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four year old girl voice, ‘Mom, what is butt dust?’

Make sure you pass this one on and spread the smiles…Now on to my kids recipes.

Enjoy the innocence of children.
